Capacity Building

NPC focuses on capacity building to assist members in obtaining, improving and retaining the skills, knowledge, tools, and other resources needed to carry out the coalition’s community plans. These skills help make the coalition more effective and sustainable, thus increasing the potential for the organization to enrich healthy lives and reduce substance abuse in the community.

Collaboration

NPC currently has many involved community members and partner organizations. There is support from a diverse group of community leaders including members from the Police Department, school community, health based organizations, and several other youth serving organizations. Members are consistently represented at local events that focus on prevention efforts. The ability to partner effectively with these groups and others is essential to building a healthy community. Collaborating and expanding relationships locally and with neighboring towns is of top priority.

Education & Trainings

Coalition members and leaders are often provided with trainings and educational seminars to sustain the coalition’s efforts. Substance use prevention is constantly evolving with the emergence of new drugs, new trends, and new treatments. Members are constantly updated and trained to handle these nuances so they can provide accurate messaging to the community.

Member Recruitment

NPC strives to represent a wide range of individuals and organizations within the community to work together to spread cohesive messaging and implement activities in the community. Our membership includes representatives from private, public, and non-profit sectors including but not limited to youth, parents, businesses, media etc. The missions and goals of NPC would be un-attainable without our hard working and dedicated members. We are continuously looking for new faces to join our team! If you or someone you know is interested in participating, please reach out to our Co-Chair, Donna Culbert at donna.culbert@newtown-ct.gov.
