~Thursday September 22, 2011 3:00 pm at the CH Booth Library~
The Newtown Prevention Council (NPC) is a group of individuals who represent diverse agencies, groups, sectors, and interests within the community that are concerned with the quality of life issues which include substance abuse. Members are willing to commit time, expertise, in-kind service and support of NPC’s vision and mission.
NPC believes that prevention education and efforts can not begin too early and that communication among the schools, parents and our youth regarding substance use is essential.
The average age children begin experimenting with alcohol, tobacco or other drugs is between 10 and 12!
Our council is designed to bring together a diverse but cohesive membership with community representation from the schools, town agencies, parents and students. Together we work to provide opportunities to increase the resiliency of our youth in avoiding substance use, present life choices which would negatively impact their future, educate parents on issues related to drug use and provide resources to help families and community members facing challenging life circumstances related to drug issues and enable families in facilitating educational discussions at home.
